Die Stille Landschaft

Gibt es magische Landschaften – und falls ja, was macht deren Magie aus?
Stellt man diese Frage, so fallen die Antworten so unterschiedlich aus wie die Menschen selbst. Für mich – und das gilt sowohl persönlich als auch in meinen fotografischen Projekten – entsteht Magie durch eine besondere Stille. Beziehe ich diese Frage auf die Landschaftsfotografie, so sind es für mich jene Momente, in denen Landschaft, Licht und Zeit in einen nicht nur sichtbaren, sondern auch fühlbaren Dialog treten.
Mit den in dieser Galerie präsentierten Bildern suche ich nicht das Spektakel, sondern die Verdichtung – jene Augenblicke, in denen sich eine Landschaft in eine Stimmung verwandelt und das Sichtbare eine zweite Ebene erhält.

Mit dieser Bildgalerie lade ich Sie ein zu einer visuellen Reise durch europäische Hochgebirge und in den Nordwesten Frankreichs. Ihre „Route“ führt Sie zunächst auf die spanische Insel La Palma, hinauf zum Gipfel des Roque de los Muchachos. Von dort geht es weiter in den Nationalpark Picos de Europa, anschließend über die Großglockner‑Hochalpenstraße und schließlich bis in die Nähe der Gipfelstation des Alpenhauptkamms zwischen Österreich und Italien.

In der Bretagne sehen Sie Küsten der Insel Belle‑Île, die markanten Steinformationen der Côte de Granit Rose und erreichen schließlich Étretat, wo die Klippen der Normandie markant über dem Meer stehen. Der letzte Abschnitt Ihrer „Reise“ führt Sie noch einmal zur Belle‑Île, in den Süden der Gemeinde Bangor. Dort erwarten Sie die Aiguilles de Port‑Coton – jene markanten Felsnadeln, die Claude Monet im Herbst 1886 zu einer Reihe beeindruckender Gemälde inspirierten. The Silent Landscape

Are there such things as magical landscapes – and if so, what makes them magical?
When you ask this question, the answers are as varied as people themselves. For me – and this applies both personally and in my photographic projects – magic arises from a special kind of stillness. When I apply this question to landscape photography, for me it is those moments in which landscape, light and time enter into a dialogue that is not only visible but also palpable.
With the images presented in this gallery, I am not seeking spectacle, but rather a distillation – those moments in which a landscape transforms into a mood and the visible takes on a second dimension.

With this photo gallery, I invite you on a visual journey through Europe’s high mountains and to north-western France. Your ‘route’ first takes you to the Spanish island of La Palma, up to the summit of Roque de los Muchachos. From there, the journey continues to the Picos de Europa National Park, then along the Grossglockner High Alpine Road and finally to the vicinity of the summit station on the main Alpine ridge between Austria and Italy.

In Brittany, you’ll see the coast of the island of Belle-Île, the striking rock formations of the Côte de Granit Rose, and finally reach Étretat, where the cliffs of Normandy rise dramatically above the sea. The final leg of your “journey” takes you back to Belle-Île, to the southern part of the commune of Bangor. There you will find the Aiguilles de Port-Coton – those striking rock needles that inspired Claude Monet to create a series of impressive paintings in the autumn of 1886.
